play me, i’m yours

July 2, 2009

Being all for both live music and impromptu gatherings of strangers, I think this is impossibly cool.  Los Angeles needs some of these, stat.

Photo belonging to someone named Sonya Reynolds. Taken at Millennium Bridge in London, below St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Street pianos are appearing in cities across the world. Located in skate parks, industrial estates, laundrettes, precincts, bus shelters and train stations, outside pubs and football grounds, the pianos are for any member of the public to enjoy….Who plays them and how long they remain is up to each community.”

If the pianos make it to California, I vow to go and play Greensleeves — the only song I remember from my eighth grade lessons — for anybody who wants to listen.  (I know, I know.  Don’t all rush over here at once.)

Meanwhile, there have been fireworks going off on the street outside my office all day, and I am so ready to get out of here and set off a few of my own.  Isn’t it great to live in a place where we celebrate grand historical events with cheeseburgers and high explosives?

Happy birthday, America.  Have a lovely 4th, everyone!
